As I mentioned before,
Blade Runner and it's
city layout bears an
amazing resemblance to
Tokyo as a city. One
thing that strikes my
mind is the resemblance
between the characters
in Noir Film and in Tokyo.
Noir characters are very
face less and empty,
much like the Japanese
in many ways. They are
a somewhat of slaves to
the society. The
foreigners, us, are like
the androids in "Blade Runner".
We are many times considered the outcast of society but
still we are more living and free creatures and no slaves to
society like the Japanese people are. It is a shame Tokyo
isn't recognized as a city with perfect Noir qualities, even
though it fits all the criteria. It is a unique city that lends
itself well to Noir film making in every aspect, but was
passed over in favor of more convenient locations in
America in the past for a number of reasons. Tokyo has
come to grown a lot and it would be amazing if someday
it could be a part of the future of Film Noir.
